School Introduction Our school is at possibly the best location in the city - located at the corner of Yonge & Bloor Streets in downtown Toronto.
Our Mission Statement is to contribute significantly to our students' future success in life. We adopt and use methods that will lead to a transformational effect on our students' learning experience and enable them to reach the ambitious study-goals that they have set. We have small classes and believe in allowing the students as much access to our teachers and staff as possible. This has a beneficial side-effect of creating a very friendly and family-like atmosphere in our school which itself also helps to create a better and more relaxing learning environment.
From January 2008, our maximum class size in the Intensive program will be only 10 students, which will make us unique in Canada.
ESL Program Introduction
We have adopted the Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) as the standard for our curriculum. The CLBs are designed by pedagogical experts of the Canadian Government. Each student is tested upon arrival and their CLB level is explained to them so they know exactly where they are at and what their next level target goals are.
Instead of "level exams", each student has weekly feedback from their teacher regarding their progression at their current Benchmark level. When the student has completed all the items on their level checklist they will progress to the next level. Our classes usually contain students with a range of 2 - 3 Benchmark levels.
The class groups themselves are divided according to the students' abilities and their CLB. We try not to use words like "Beginner", "Intermediate" or "Advanced" as we believe that these divisions cause barriers to a student's progress and understanding of what they actually need to learn/study to really improve their skills.
Our programs are for ambitious learners - those people who look at a study-abroad trip as an investment in their future and are therefore motivated to succeed.
