School Introduction

Maine is in the north-east corner of New England and borders the maritime states of Canada. It is known as "Vacationland" because of the many scenic areas and the abundance of activities available throughout the four seasons.

In summer, Maine's lakes and waterways allow vacationers to swim, canoe, and boat. Camping is a favorite summertime event. The mountains in western Maine are excellent for hiking. In the fall, the foliage is famous in Maine. Many of the largest fairs and festivals take place during this time of year. In the winter, the snow falls and cross country and down hill skiing are popular. The lakes freeze over and allow for easy and exciting snowmobile travel as well as ice skating.

ESL Homestay, USA is located in the heart of the Lakes Region of western Maine. It is a beautiful area of lakes in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountain range.

The facilities are two and a half hours from Boston and about one hour away from Maine's largest city, Portland.

Sebago Lake, the second largest lake in Maine, supplies water for Portland and is also the largest recreational area in the southern half of "Vacationland". Vacationers from southern states make Maine, and especially this area, their summer home.

ESL Program Introduction

Our main objectives are to improve a student's ability to understand, speak, and communicate spoken English, to read, write, and build vocabulary in a natural setting and to allow students to develop a deeper understanding for different cultures within an international environment.

Our summer studies program is an excellent opportunity for students preparing for an American private school experience, for returning students who need to upgrade English skills, and for the student who wants to study English and culture during vacation. The program provides individualized learning experiences in a relaxed, friendly, and safe environment with seasoned professionals. Importantly, it is an option to institutional learning.

Intensive ESL for new and returning students, TOEFL study, cultural studies, and orientation for students new to boarding school are offered to augment the homestay portion of the program. The same successful teaching methods used in academic year ESL programs are used by ESL Homestay, USA teachers.
